Special Interest Groups Updates

Special Interest Groups

Updated April 21, 2024

To view/print a copy of the Probus Club of Nanoose Bay Guest Waiver for Club activities click here.

A request to the leaders: Please volunteer to write up a short report for your group – a couple of lines and one or two pictures is all that is required. We will then put this report on the website so that other members can see what your activity is all about, potentially encouraging additional participation.

If the group you are interested in is ‘full’ – please try to solicit other members who may be interested in joining and then contact the leader of the current group and suggest that he/she consider splitting the Group and starting a new one, with new plus current members in each. This will provide an ideal opportunity for the new members to meet long-time members as well as allow for ‘coaching’ for beginners.

For contact information on Special Interest Group Leaders and locations, please refer to your membership list.

ORGANIZERS Sharon Jackson and Jo Graham
DAY/TIME                                              Second Wednesday of the month, 5:00pm
Les Petits Wineaux is a wine tasting group for beginners and an offshoot of Les Wineaux.  In Les Petits Wineaux, we will explore basic wine tasting techniques using sight, smell and taste to learn how to evaluate and to appreciate wines.

Regular monthly meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month starting at 5:00.  Members will take turns hosting the meetings.  The meeting format will evolve over time and with member input.

At each meeting, we will compare two or three different wines, identifying what is typical for each of those wines.  We will discuss and compare the clarity, aroma, flavours and characteristics of each wine that we are tasting.  We will have references on-hand to help us to develop  vocabulary and to make notes to record our opinions and what we have learned.

To create the best educational experience, we will compare quality wines, with an average price point of $30 a bottle.  The cost of wines will vary for each meeting.   The purchase price of the wines tasted will be divided between the attendees.

After the educational part of the meeting, we’ll take time to savour the wines and to relax together.  Attendees are asked to bring an appetizer to pair with the wine being tasted.

We want to limit the size of the group to 20.  If there is strong interest shown by members, another group could be formed by others in the club.

For further information and/or to express interest in joining the group, please email both Sharon Jackson and Jo Graham.
