Minutes of the General Meeting of the Probus Club of Nanoose Bay

Welcome:
Ron Windrim in the chair welcomed everyone to the meeting
Members with Guests: No guests were introduced.
Announcements:
Thanks to Bob & Melba for setup and door duties and thanks to the Catering Crew today: Stan and Sandy Wood and Ann and Dave Williams
Minutes:
Maureen Paterson moved that the minutes of the General Meeting held May 29, 2017 be approved as circulated on the website. Lynda Ingram seconded – carried.
Treasurer:
Carolyn Dodd reported as of June 14, 2017, funds available at CCCU are:
High Interest Savings Account: $3,683.95
Chequing Account: $4,245.06
Social Convener:
The club still does not have a social convener however Ron Windrim appealed to the membership to consider this position or belong to a committee to revitalize these activities.
Bill McCachen reminded the membership about the July 14th picnic and encouraged signing up on the sign up sheets or on the website.
Sunshine:
Jacqui Townsend reported that 3 cards had been sent out this month and that there were 24 birthdays for the month of June.
Special Interest Groups:
Kathy Lowe invited representatives of the special interest groups for information on their meetings and activities -full details and contact information are available on the website.
It was noted that a lot of the groups are taking a summer break and will resume in September.
Patti Page announced the formation of a new group – Golf Nine & Dine – more info to follow on the website.
A movie night has been suggested and there is a sign- up sheet for those interested in season tickets for the Fringe Flicks.
Kathy Lowe suggested a getting together of special interest group leaders to share their knowledge.
Communications:
Ann Lawson thanked the special interest group leaders for sending in their information and reminded the membership that a lot of details are in the newsletter.

Guest Speaker:
Norma McCachen introduced our guest speaker – Shane Wilson a local sculptor who specializes in using natural media such as fossilized woolly mammoth tusk, whale baleen, various antlers, horns and teeth. He brought with him a selection of these materials and the tools he uses (similar to dental tools) to create incredible works of art. He fascinated the audience with the details of his work and showed various examples. He was a captivating and interesting speaker – much appreciated by the membership.
Club Lunch:
Jean Candey announced that today’s pub lunch will be at the Lantzville Pub and mentioned it was a good way for the new members to socialize.

Final Announcements:
- Patrick Murray announced a gala fund raising event to be held at Fairwinds Golf Club September 23 for the benefit of Nanoose Community Services. A live auction will be held – tickets to go on sale in August.
- Jaqui Townsend requested help in finding someone to create another “badge box” .
Elder College pamphlets for those interested were distributed at the door.
