General Meeting Minutes April 21 2017

Minutes of the General Meeting of the Probus Club of Nanoose Bay
St Mary’s Church Hall
9:15 am on April 21, 2017

Welcome: Ron Windrim in the chair welcomed members and guests. Meeting opened at 9:15 a.m

Members with Guests: Anne Larson introduced her two guests Frankie & Herb Resar.
Announcements: Thanks to Bob & Melba Nelson for setup and door duties, and thanks to the Catering Crew today: Barb & Gerry Hardy and Wayne Hopkins. Happy Birthday to two members that share the same April birthday as Queen Elizabeth.

Minutes: Maureen Paterson moved that the Minutes of the General Meeting held March 17, 2017 be approved as circulated on the website. Tony Ransom seconded – carried.

Treasurer: Carolyn Dodd reported as of April 1, 2017, funds available at the CCCU are:
High Interest Savings Account: $3,682.00
Chequing Account: $4,260.95

Social Convener:
Anne Larson reported that the trip to the Sunshine Coast has been cancelled and that the plans for the annual picnic is progressing with the date of July 14th at Rathtrevor Park.
As of yet no new social convener has volunteered to take up this position. Appeals were made to the membership as to the importance of this job and perhaps more than one person could share the position.

Sunshine:
Jacqui Townsend was absent and Ron Windrim informed the members of the sudden passing of Bill Townsend and sends condolences on behalf of the membership.
Phyllis Horne reported that 5 cards were send out in April and a bouquet of flowers.

Special Interest Groups:
Kathy Lowe invited representatives of the special interest groups for information on their meetings and activities– full details and contact information are on the website.
A new group is being formed – sign up sheet on the table – Historical Archive Group – to organize with photos and documents the history of the Probus Club of Nanoose Bay.
Marianne Duffley encouraged signing up for Les Wineaux next meeting – pairing up appetizers -by mentioning the successful similar event the yacht club had at Fairwinds Club house.

Communications: Ron Windrim thanked Ann Lawson for taking over this position.

Membership: Lyn King is away – no badges handed out as the new members were not present.

Guest Speaker:
Dick Duffley introduced our guest speaker: Darren Johnston, Director of Fleet Operation, BC Ferries. Darren spoke about BC Ferries operations in general and commented that information is probably the number one thing that people want in regards to service operations. He touched on several topics, for eg: safety, BC Ferries business model, customer satisfaction and future considerations such as pre-booking. There were many interesting questions and answers. Dick Duffley thanked Darren for his well- received and informative presentation.

Club Lunch: Today’s lunch is at the Longwood Brew Pub

Attendance: 90 members 2 guests 1 speaker

Next Management Meeting: 10:00 am, May 4th at Ron Windrim’s home.
