President’s Message May 2024

   President’s Message     May 2024

We are entering the month of May, named for the Roman Goddess, Maia who was considered a nurturer and an earth goddess which might explain the name for this springtime month.  The nice weather is here, plants and flowers are blooming and the rains have been few.

An early fire season has started in western Canada which should remind all to be fire smart and be cautious of dry conditions in our region, as well as other areas we travel to.  Let’s stay safe.

There are many significant days every month, but May is special.  Since 1907 Mothers Day has been celebrated around the world, this year it falls on May 12th .  Where possible, it is a time to celebrate with them.  It is an opportunity to honour our mothers.  For those of us who hold our moms in our memories it is an opportunity to think of all the great times in our past.

Executive have received a suggestion/inquiry about changing our monthly General Meeting start time from  9:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.  We need to have input from you to understand what works best for our diverse membership. Please email your comments for or against this time change, to Past President Ann Lawson at pastpresident@nbprobus.org  before Monday May 27, to allow review at the next Management meeting on May 30.

We continue to seek out members to join with our Speakers Committee:  our Probus group runs on volunteers, many hands make light work.

Take the time to check out our Newsletter and all the information it has to offer, a lot of work goes into maintaining our Website and Newsletter.  Two more examples of our great volunteers, accolades go out to Jane Currie and Vicki Beazley.

Wishing all the best to you and your families, may it be a successful month with many great achievements.  Do not let the fact that it is “Arthritis Awareness Month” hold you back.
